Forklift Battery Safety

Emergency Eyewash Station
An emergency eyewash station must be located near the charging place. The route to the station should not be obstructed and a worker who is injured must be able to go to the eyewash post from the charging area within 10 seconds without running.
Charger Safety
The charger should be the same amperage as the battery. It should be turned off when the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
Open flames are prohibited in the vicinity of a battery and charging area. Do not permit items like for instance matches or lighters to be used when someone is inspecting the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
The battery charging are also has to be correctly ventilated. The recharging method can cause fumes to be released. These gases are both poisonous and explosive.
