Reach Truck
A reach truck is used to store pallets of goods, supplies, and to keep storage places orderly. The reach truck comes in several kinds: the double-deep reach, straddle reach and the stand-up reach.
The simplest kind is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide underneath the pallet and move it to the right storage place. The forks slide the pallet into place. This type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are one pallet deep.
The double-deep reach truck is similar to the stand-up, but is ideal for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods. This version consists of telescopic forks designed to position the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when one more pallet should go into the same shelving section.
The additional advantage of straddle reaches is that they can both slide underneath the pallet and grasp the sides also. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in many directions. This version is ideal in situations where goods will not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
Inside nearly all warehouses, there are usually more than one type of reach truck. Textile firms and manufacturing facilities use different kinds of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to operate and could make the most of available storage space while increasing production.
