The forklift is a material handling machinery utilized to raise and move loads from one location to another. Every component of a forklift has a particular function. Various parts can be used to move the load horizontally or vertically.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components that lower and lift the load. There are different types of masts used for lifting loads to different heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located in the cab under the seat. The propane tank is situated on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the back of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is located in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated within the cab.
Frame
The truck frame carries all the biggest parts of the forklift, like the counterweights, that are located at the back to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
