Forklift Safety and Forklift Training:

Forklift safety training is actually the employer's responsibility. It is in the best interest of the employer to spend some money on forklift training for all staff. Incorrectly utilized forklifts can cause damage to your property. Companies can be sued if there are injuries. It's truly worthwhile to ensure that anyone utilizing a forklift is correctly trained to do so.

The best way to ensure safe forklift operation is to require every employee to go to a forklift training program.

All employees must be aware of forklift basics. Information regarding safety must be provided in the form of handouts, and posted in posters and warning signs. The following are some important forklift safety and training tips:

1) Each worker should be licensed to use a forklift. Never take risks with such big machines. Forklift training must be taken really seriously.

2) Forklift operators must always use seat belts. Just because the forklift moves slowly doesn't mean that seat belts can be disregarded. Accidents are less likely to result in personal injuries when seat belts are worn.

3) A system wherein workers report instances of mechanical problems or damage must be established. As the employer, you need to create an effective and efficient reporting system that is easy to learn. Staff should be trained correctly in forklift basics so that they could detect and report problems when they happen.

4) Employees must be trained how to lean away from the turn, and stay in the cab even when there is risk of overturning. Staff must not jump out. That's the best way to prevent serious injury.

5) Employees should be trained about the weight capacity limit of the forklift. A major cause of forklift accidents is related to tip overs caused by lifting very heavy loads. Workers should be well aware of how much they could lift safely. A tip over can damage the whole forklift. Overloading is the biggest safety blunder an employee could make.
