The forklift is an important piece of machinery in most businesses that operate distribution centers, warehouses, industrial and storage handling facilities. This great machine, the lift truck is made of many components, such as the important carriage, the engine, the power source and the wheels. Lift trucks generally have different kinds of attachments as well. The following are several of the most important components of a lift truck.
Engine of the Forklift - At the back of the equipment, the forklift has its power source. The different kinds of engine on the forklift would need varying power sources. For example, a lift truck with an internal combustion engine can have any of the following as its power source: CNG gas, LP gas, gasoline or diesel. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from fuel cells or a battery.
Truck Frame - the base of the lift truck and the most important of all the lift truck components is the truck frame. This forms the equipment's core. All other parts of a forklift are connected to the base, like the overhead guard, counterweight, wheels, axles and mast. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks can be part of the frame assembly too.
Counterweight Forklift Components - the counterweight is what allows the equipment to be balanced while lifting heavy cargo. This part is made of heavy cast iron and is attached to the rear-end of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the truck frame to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being carried or lifted on the front. The heavy lead-acid battery in an electric lift truck gives balance and can work as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - this area is where the operator sits and drives the machinery. Some forklifts have a cab area which is open to the air and several have closed cabs. There are really numerous parts situated in the cab for operating the forks. The cab contains such essential components like the seats, pedals, switches, levers, steering wheel and operator controls. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
